POLICE are investigating an incident in Rugby in which offenders sexually assaulted a woman before attempting to steal her hand bag.

The incident took place in the Crowthorns at 11pm on Wednesday. The woman, who is in her 20s, had parked her car and was walking away from it when she became aware of two men who were behind her. One of the men grabbed her round the neck and pushed her against the wall and made a comment about her to his associate before sexually assaulting her.

The man stopped when a car drove past them. His accomplice then tried to steal her hand bag, but the strap broke, spilling the contents on to the floor. The two men ran off.

Both males were dressed in dark clothing and police would like to hear from anyone who was in the locality of the Crowthorns in Rugby at around 11pm on Wednesday night and who saw two males dressed in dark clothing, or who saw anything out of the ordinary.

They would also like to trace the driver of the car which drove past a group of three people at around 11pm. The driver may not have realised what was happening, but they may have valuable information to assist the police in their investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Constable Kate Williams in the Nuneaton Local Investigation team on 02476 641111 x 3157 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
