Two employees from award-winning care home Anya Court are climbing Snowdon to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. Customer relationship manager, Karen Handley and business administrator, Sarah Connaire, have already raised around £1,000 for the charity that works to improve the quality of life for people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The daring duo have raised the money by hosting a charity bake sale, pizza quiz night and an Easter raffle at the Dunchurch Road home which specialises in residential, nursing and dementia care.
It’s a cause close to our heartsSarah Connaire, business administrator at Anya Court
Karen and Sarah, who have never climbed a mountain before, have trained for the 1,085 metre summit by walking around the Yorkshire Dales and Derbyshire together.
Sarah said: “It’s a cause close to our hearts. We have seen a lot of people affected by the condition since the home opened its doors.”
Karen, who is dementia champion at Anya Court, said: “We are two desk-bound ladies who could do with getting fit. Climbing the mountain together is also a great opportunity for us to bond as a team.
“If all goes well, our next challenge will be to walk from Durrington Wales to Stone Henge.”
The pair will take on the nine-hour challenge on May 15.
