Competitors from all over the Midlands battled it out at Rugby Weights and Fitness to find the strongest man.

Seven aspiring strongmen competed across six events, with Dean Williams, 29, from Nottingham, taking the title.

The event was held at the Hillmorton gym, which organised the competition along with fellow independent gym, No Limits.

Ewen Weatherburn, manager of Rugby Weights and Fitness, who won the Hertfordshire Strongest Man competition earlier this year, said: “The first Rugby strongman event was a great success.

“This event was all about helping people push themselves to achieve their goals - something that we at the independent gyms in Rugby put at the heart of everything we do.”

Competitors took part in a range of events, from flipping a 180kg tractor tyre to pulling a three-tonne car for 20m.”

Each event was adjudicated by former UK Strongest Woman Rebecca Weatherburn, co-owner of Rugby Weights and Fitness, and the event was commentated by strongman commentator Les Wiltshire.

The next Rugby Strongman competition will be held in June 2016.
