A young boy who lost his grandad to Parkinson’s disease has completed a cycle challenge in his memory.

Determined Ben Smith took on the ten-mile ride around Draycote Water to raise money for Rugby’s Parkinson’s group.

His grandad, Charles Thorburn, battled with Parkinson’s for six years before he passed away on May 19 2013.

The 12-year-old told his mum Lorna he wanted to do something to ‘remember his grandad and raise awareness’.

“I’m very proud of him and it was all his idea - he was really keen to do something positive. He just decided he wanted to do it for a good cause and one close to his heart,” Lorna said.

Ben’s cycle raised £140 for Rugby’s Parkinson’s support group, which his grandad visited on several occasions.
