DIVERS have been searching for clues as to the whereabouts of missing pensioner George Summerfield.

Officers are conducting an extensive search of the Wolston area after the 77 year old went missing on Thursday March 29. Searches of his home, in Meadow Road, and other locations were conducted but have not revealed any clues about Mr Summerfield’s activities or whereabouts.

Today an underwater search team from Thames Valley Police conducted a thorough search of the River Avon near the village whilst PCSOs from across the county will, with a team of police officers, will be combing fields and woods where Mr Summerfield may have wandered. Throughout the two week investigation members of the local community have supported police in their searches and appeals for information.

A/Sgt Stuart Powell said: “Over the past two weeks we have searched all possible locations around Wolston in our search for George Summerfield, and today we will begin re-tracing our steps to make sure that we have not missed anything.

“It is most unusual for Mr Summerfield to go far from home which is why we are concentrating on the local vicinity. He does not drive and it would be out of character for him to use public transport, so it is not likely that he would have gone any further than he is able to walk.

“We are grateful for all the support we have had from the local community, and their help with our searches so far. Clearly he is a much loved member of the community and everyone is as keen as us to find him.”

He added: “We are still appealing for anyone who knows anything about Mr Summerfield, his whereabouts or intentions, and has not spoke to us about it to come forward. All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Anyone who sees Mr Summerfield is asked to dial 999 immediately.
