Dramatic welcome to new parishes vicar

A FLASH of lightning and a gust of wind made for a dramatic welcome to south Warwickshire for the new vicar of the Mid Fosse parishes on his induction day.

Strong winds uprooted both marquees that had been set up for refreshments at St George’s church in Newbold Pacey for the induction of the Rev John Parker, who now presides over the parishes of Newbold Pacey, Ashorne, Chesterton, Lighthorne and Moreton Morrell.

Around 200 people turned up to welcome him, including Area Dean Rev Kate Mier, benefice patron Lord Willoughly de Broke, the Rt Rev John Stroyan, the Bishop of Warwick, representatives from schools, councils and Moreton Morrell Real Tennis Club.

Despite the bad weather, the service went ahead and organisers laid out food and wine at the back of the church.

Rev Parker, his wife and three children are now based at the Lighthorne rectory.
