A wish has been granted for a seriously ill girl from Lilbourne who got to meet her favourite television star from Tracey Beaker.

It was a dream come true for Libby Berridge, eight, who has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a life-threatening cancer of the white blood cells.

She has been undergoing a gruelling two and a half year course of chemotherapy treatment, meaning long spells in hospital.

Despite the challenges that Libby has faced, she has been continuously brave.

Libby is a bright, happy and polite little girl, who, according to her mum Sam, has ‘just the right amount of cheek’.

“I would do anything to swap places with her,” said Sam.

“She was diagnosed when she seven and has humbled us all with her courage since the start.”

Libby is currently in remission and is happy to be back at Yelvertoft School.

“She has done all her insulin injections herself,” Sam said.

“In hospital when her cannula is being fitted Libby has tears streaming down her face but will not move a muscle. I am so proud of her, she never complains.”

When asked her what her dearest wish would be, Libby told the Starlight children’s charity that she would like to meet Dani Harmer, the star of her favourite programme, Dani’s Castle and Tracey Beaker.

Libby, her mum, dad Ben, brother Max, 13, and sister Harriett, ten, were collected from home by a chauffeur driven Bentley and driven in style to The Belmont Hotel in Leicester, to meet Dani.

After the wish, Libby’s father Ben said: “Starlight has made my little girl extremely happy.

“It could not have come at a better time, we are having such a positive patch at the moment. Libby is back at school and her energy levels are up, now with her Starlight wish she is on cloud 9.”

He added: “It was wonderful to sit and watch her beaming all afternoon.

“Thank you to everyone who made Libby’s wish happen.
