It’s a giant leap forward for Rugby Free Secondary School – The Secretary of State for Education has agreed to enter into the crucial Funding Agreement with Knowledge School Trust for the school.

Nicky Morgan met members of the Trust last Thursday when she visited Rugby Free Primary and spoke openly about it being an inspirational school.

And now the plans for its sister secondary school –which have sparked ongoing protests on the Rokeby estate where it is due to be based – have got this critical support.

A statement on the school’s website says: “We are all absolutely thrilled as this legal document is the Government’s commitment that we will open and is one of the final stages in the process towards opening a free school.

“Our team of first-rate teachers is complete and we are now able to formalise their contracts and accelerate the procurement of everything we need to open in September.

“Parents offered a place at both RFSS and another school via their local authority will now be required to choose only one of the schools offered. It is, therefore, likely that some places will soon become available to those on our waiting list, so please do spread the word to any friends who did not receive the school of their choice.

“We could not have got this far without the fantastic support from the Department for Education, the Education Funding Agency, the wider community and especially the parents who have applied for places at RFSS – thank you!”
