An elderly woman in her nineties was grabbed and assaulted by a man who let himself into her property in Rugby.

The incident happened in Lower Hillmorton Road yesterday (Thursday July 30).

The victim, a woman in her nineties, answered the inner door of her porch to the suspect who had already let himself in to the porch through the outer door at around 9.20am.

He addressed her by her first name, and grabbed hold of her wrist and pushed her inside the house.

When the victim said she was calling police the man made off.

The woman was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The suspect was described as a white man, around 5ft 3 - 5ft 5, in his twenties to thirties, and of slim build with short brown hair. He was possibly wearing a short navy jacket and black jeans at the time of the incident.

Detective Inspector Neal Candelent said: “This was a very frightening, unprovoked attack on an elderly woman in her own home, and we doing all we can to trace the offender.

“The victim spoke to an unknown woman who was passing immediately after the attack. As a possible witness I would ask that lady to contact police.

“We would encourage anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 75 of July 30.”
