The £35million redevelopment of a shopping park in Rugby is on track to open in autumn this year.

Elliott’s Field, in Leicester Road, will feature a Debenhams store, Next, Outfit, Marks and Spencer, Clarks and TK Maxx. The development will also include food and drink outlets.

Rugby MP Mark Pawsey visited the site last week.

Mr Pawsey said some people had concerns about the park’s impact on the town centre but he believed the new houses being built in the town would provide a strong customer base.

He said: “I think it is positive news for Rugby that after so many years spent encouraging a department store to come to our town this ambition will finally be realised when Debenhams opens its doors this winter.”

There will be 657 car parking spaces available on site.

Thomas Cochrane, asset manager at Hammerson, who own the site, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mark to Elliott’s Field recently.

“The £35million redevelopment will bring new shops and restaurants to the area, including a new Debenhams department store, and it’s great to see how far we’ve already come in transforming the site.

“A key point, and this is something I discussed with Mark, is the role Elliott’s Field will have in helping to retain customer spending in Rugby and in delivering benefits for the whole town. Every day we’re a step closer to that and we’re continuing to move forward.”
