A woman who has already raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities is now in training to ride 400km across Cuba.
Emily Hawkley, 24, is supporting Women V Cancer, an umbrella charity raising funds for Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Trust.
“I used to take part in every Race for Life for Cancer Research UK,” said Emily, who works in Rugby.
“During one of the events I hurt myself and was advised that running was not the best thing for me to do.”
Emily was determined not to let it be the end of her fundraising days.
She said: “Doing Race for Life used to make me feel really good.”
“I know a lot of people who have been affected by cancer, so it’s nice to be able to do something to help.”
She heard about the Cuba cycle challenge and has now been training hard for the event in October.
“It was a spur of the moment decision. What drew me in is that more than one charity is being supported.”
“I must raise a minimum of £2,900 which is a big amount for one person.”
Emily is staging two music events and is confident she can raise the funds.
She said: “I’m a bit nervous but I know it will be the experience of a lifetime as well as raising awareness and money to help people with cancer.”
