Employees from across Warwickshire have raised over £26,000 for The Myton Hospices as part of the charity’s Take 50 Challenge.

The annual event gives staff 50 days to put their entrepreneurial skills to the test and turn £50 into as much money as possible for Myton. This year 17 teams from across the region signed up to take part and raised enough money to fund a Myton inpatient bed for 49 days.

The award for the most money raised went to the team from Coventry Building Society who won for the fourth year running and raised £7,351. Team Leader Danny Farndon said: “We love the Take50 Challenge. It gives us a real focus to raise both funds and awareness for Myton, a charity very close to our hearts. Our aim is to beat our winning total next year and to retain the trophy would just be a bonus”

Second place went to Brethertons from Rugby who raised £2,862.29. Laura Stuart from the team said: “It was great fun working as a team to plan a range of fund raising events such as weekly raffles or sweepstakes, a name the teddy competition, sponsored 50km bike rides and runs, a five–a-side football match and putting on a comedy night, whilst raising funds for a fantastic worthwhile cause.”

The team from Paragon in Solihull were crowned Most Innovative Fundraisers for their Sumo Wrestling Extravaganza.

Myton’s corporate fundraising development manager Hannah Morris said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of this year’s teams for their amazing fundraising efforts. This year’s event raised enough money to fund one of our

Inpatient beds for 49 days which is fantastic. We are already looking forward to next year’s event when we hope even more teams will get involved.”

The Myton Hospices has hospices in Rugby, Warwick and Coventry and needs to raise over £8 million a year to keep its services running.
