CANCER charities in Rugby will benefit from Dunchurch Festival Group Players’ comedy Off the Hook!, which hits the stage at Dunchurch Village Hall later this month.

The comedy, by Derek Benfield, will be staged for the first time on Friday September 21 at 7.30pm. A special performance to benefit local cancer charities will be held on Wednesday September 26 and there is a Gala Night performance to include dinner on Thursday September 27. The play is set in a country house where the loot from a robbery committed some time earlier has been stashed. An inept gang, intent on taking the stolen money for themselves, have sprung Harold Spook in the mistaken belief that he was one of the original thieves. Sadly, he is the wrong Spook and when the girlfriend of the actual Spook turns up with her deaf, doddery, daft old dad in tow, also to retrieve the cash, there is huge confusion and chaos. The hotel staff and residents remain ignorant of what’s going on and much mayhem ensues.

There will be performances on September 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at Dunchurch Village Hall at 7.30pm. For tickets, which cost £7, visit Wanda Ladies Fashions, The Square, Dunchurch, or call (01788) 522021.
