Female motorist punched during a robbery in Dunsmore Avenue

A WOMAN was punched in the head and robbed of her handbag while sitting in her car in Rugby.

Police are now hunting for the man who stole the woman’s handbag while she was sat in her car in Dunsmore Avenue, just around the corner from the Spar shop in Hillmorton Road at 9pm last night (Thursday).

The woman was sat in her blue Golf convertible when a man reached into the car to take her handbag. She tried to stop him and was punched to the head before the thief managed to steal her bag

The man is described as a dark skinned asian male, 5ft 4ins to 5ft 6ins tall, around 40 years old with short shaven hair.

He got into a silver vehicle with part registration F56 that was parked nearby and driven by an accomplice before driving off in the direction of Rugby town centre.

A police spokesman said: “The woman was shocked and shaken by her experience and was checked over by ambulance staff.

“Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries and checking CCTV in the hope of identifying the thief.”

The bag stolen was a grey ‘CK’ bag containing a brown Louis Vuitton purse.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery or anyone with information, or who may have seen the men acting suspiciously near the corner of Dunsmore Avenue and Hillmorton Road, near to the Spar shop to please come forward.
