Finding a Guy is hard work for Warwick mayor

MAYOR of Warwick Elizabeth Higgins had her work cut out when it came to judging the best Guy for the town’s Guy Fawkes Night Bonfire.

Children of all ages at Newburgh School turned their hands to making the Guys.

Cllr Higgins said: “I was really quite amazed by the standard and Andrew Smith the headmaster is to be praised for organising it.

“The Guys were all adult size and they had put a lot of work into them. I picked the Guy holding the gunpowder barrel as the best.”

The Guy making was sponsored by Rob Warrington, of The Tuckery in Market Place.

The Guy will have pride of place at the celebrations being staged at Warwick Racecourse on Saturday.

Cllr Higgins added: “Lighting the bonfire will be one of the highlights of my mayoral year.”

It is organised by the Round Table, Lions and Rotary clubs in Warwick and gates open at 5pm for the bonfire and fireworks display at 6.30pm.
