Firefighters feared people could be trapped in Rugby building fire

Firefighters feared people were trapped in a building on fire in Rugby last night (Friday).

At about 9.30pm, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the old Imperial Hotel building in Oxford Street.

Two fire engines from Rugby Fire Station were mobilised.

Upon arrival, fire crews believed that there may have been persons sleeping in the building and requested an additional fire engine.

One fire engine from Southam was mobilised to assist.

Firefighters used hose reels, breathing apparatus and main jets to deal with the incident and later confirmed that no persons had been found within the building.

Police and Ambulance crews also attended.
