Five people were arrested yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after a group of travellers blocked off a busy town centre road.
A convoy of caravans turned into Little Church Street shortly after 2pm and reportedly tried to gain access to the grounds of the Herbert Grey College.
A spokesperson for Rugby First confirmed that the travellers were spotted by the town’s CCTV operators as they drove down Little Church Street.
The operators were suspicious because the road is a dead end, so they immediately contacted police.
Police confirmed they were called to the scene and made a total of five arrests, in addition to seizing a vehicle and a caravan for tax offences.
Those arrested included a 45-year-old man from Wigan on suspicion of theft, a 27-year-old man from Milton Keynes on suspicion of theft, a 43-year-old man from Milton Keynes on suspicion of theft and a 31-year-old man from Halifax on suspicion of theft. They are all currently in police custody.
A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and has been given a caution.
