The proposals for the development in Evreux Way, which would encompass the area currently used as a car park and the adjacent Cemex building went before Rugby Borough Council planning committee on Wednesday, June 15.

Planning officers had recommended the outline application - which would have given the green light in principle to the development - be approved, however councillors deferred the decision as they wanted more information from Warwickshire County Council on the traffic implications.

The application included a food store, other retail units, financial and professional services, restaurants and cafes, drinking establishments and hot food takeaways.

The proposal was originally mooted at the end of 2014. Shortly after, the then owner of the Clock Towers Shopping Centre was granted outline planning permission for a mixed shopping and leisure scheme on the same site.

The new application will be considered again soon.
