A FORMER councillor has been fined £350 for over-claiming over £1,000-worth of council tax allowance.
Mike Galsworthy, former Tory borough councillor for Dunchurch and Knightlow Ward, pleaded guilty to four offences at Rugby Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Although his tax forms were correct at the time they were submitted in August 2009, he failed to notify the borough council when his partner moved in with him, when his partner started working, that he was in receipt of a private pension and that he was in receipt of councillors’ allowance.
The cost of the recent by-election in Dunchurch and Knightlow Ward, along with the cost of training new Conservative councillor Ian Stanley, will cost borough tax-payers several thousand pounds.
