A former soldier is donating his golf tournament winnings to two charities close to his heart.

Paul Bates, from New Bilton, recently won a competition at his golf club and has decided to donate his cash prize to Help for Heroes and Pawprints Dog Rescue, as he has a 15-year-old rescue dog, Missie.

Paul served with the Royal Regiment Of Fusiliers in Northern Ireland in the early 90s and was part of the first Gulf War. He was also based at the Norwegian/Russian border during the Cold War.

Paul said: “I, like so many others, had friends and comrades injured or killed while serving our country.”

Paul said Pawprints were ‘amazing’ and he has had four rescue dogs.
