BIKERS are being invited on a continental charity road trip to Rugby’s twin towns in France and Germany.
George Compton, who is organising the trip through the town’s twinning committee, is planning to lead a convoy of bikes to Evreux and Russelsheim in September, although no date has yet been set.
Sponsorship funds from the marathon trip will go towards the Fire Fighters Charity and Rugby Community Support Service to help the Bloxham Centre’s work with children with learning difficulties.
George is also hoping to make a flying visit to the towns’ fire fighters and community services.
He said: “I know a lot of blokes my age who have bikes, but they just seem to be rusting in their garages. I’m hoping I can encourage some of them to get them out, dust them off and help me raise some money.
“No date has yet been set because I’m waiting to see who else wants to come along so the dates can be set around what’s easiest for them. It’s also my 70th birthday this year and it would be nice to celebrate the milestone by doing something special. Both charities are fantastic causes.”
