Get your child's car seat checked by experts at Elliott's Field Rugby this weekend

Officers from Warwickshire Police are running the car seat clinic this Saturday from 11am-4pm at the Leicester Road site to promote child car seat safety, alongside Good Egg Safety, the national in-car safety experts.

As well as being able to engage with police officers, members of the public will have the chance to obtain potentially life-saving advice on car seats, have their own car seats checked by Good Egg Safety experts, ask any questions they may have and obtain useful information for when buying a new car seat.

Research carried out by Good Egg Safety across almost 11,000 car seat checks in the UK between 2010 and 2013 found that 54% of all seats checked were either incorrectly fitted or incompatible with the child or car.

By law, drivers must ensure that all children under 14 years of age in cars, vans and other goods vehicles wear seat belts or sit in an approved child restraint. If a child is under 1.35metres tall, a baby seat, child seat, booster seat or booster cushion must be used which is suitable for the child’s weight and fitted to the manufacturer’s instructions.

PC James Graham from Warwickshire Police said “National research has suggested that a worryingly high proportion of car seats are incorrectly fitted. Alongside the Good Egg Safety team, our car seat clinic this Saturday will give parents, carers and grandparents the chance to pop along to Elliott’s Field at the same time as doing their shopping and obtain useful advice and information which could potentially save a child’s life.”

Members of staff from the local Community Safety Partnership will also be on hand to offer general crime prevention advice.
