A Wolston family is raising money for the hospital that saved their little boy’s life after he was born with half a heart.

Little Samuel was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

It’s a way of giving something back for all the care they’ve given to Samuel

He had open heart surgery when he was just one week old and another operation sixth months later.

Now, aged 17 months, mum Angela describes him as a ‘happy little boy’.

“He loves to play outside and he’s a very smiley boy,” she said.

“If you saw him in the street you wouldn’t know there was anything different about him. He’s one of the happiest children I know.”

Samuel has been cared for by the specialist team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital since he was born.

Angela said: “The hospital is fantastic and they can’t do enough for you.

“We were able to stay over while Samuel was in hospital for three months and it was so important for us to able to see Samuel in the middle of the night and be there 24-7.”

Angela, Sam’s dad Jim, and friends have arranged a golf tournament and fun day to raise money for the hospital.

“It’s a way of giving something back for all the care they’ve given to Samuel,” Angela said.

The golf tournament will be held at Leam Valley and costs £10 per entrant.

Dunchurch Social Club will be hosting the fun day, with facepainting, cakes, bouncy castles, craft stalls, a tombola, barbecue, raffle and disco on offer.

“The event started off as a golf day but it just grew and grew,” Angela said.

“The stalls will be indoors so the weather doesn’t matter - it usually rains around bank holiday!”

The fundraisers will be held on May 23 from 1.30pm to 11.30pm.

All money raised will be given to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
