Greenway impassable and trees down after Storm Barney hit

Reports have come in of one large tree down in Leamington on Wednesday, as well as work continuing to clear cycle and bridleways around Kenilworth.

The tree in Millhouse Terrace fell during high winds, damaging a car parked in the street.

Nobody was injured in what residents said was “very lucky” due to the size of the branched and trunk.

Authorities have been on scene clearing the damage after these picture were sent in by Hayley Grainger.

The Kenilworth Greenway remains partly impassable in parts due to fallen trees along the pathways.

Several large trunks and branches fell in what Greenway Trust members said left “a total blockage” between the Hodgetts Lane egress and the Waste Lane bridge to the north.

Other paths, including by Cromwell Lane, were also left blocked with Warwickshire Park Rangers working to clear the walkways.

A trust spokesperson said: “As several parks have been affected this may take some time as the rangers will have to cut up, move and clear as they go along the Greenway.

“Until the bridleway is clear please take extra care using only accessible parts.”

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said they took at least 20 calls about high winds overnight.

Over 2,500 homes were left without power across the midlands on Tuesday.

More than 35 trees toppled in Warwickshire in just 24 hours and Warwickshire County Council’s forestry and highways teams are working to clear roads and walkways.

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, leader of the council, said: “I know that the forestry team, along with many others, worked long shifts to make sure roads were kept clear in the aftermath of Storm Barney. I’d like to thank them for all their work.”
