Teams went out into the rain with torches and filters to take part in a unique lighting event at several locations, shining torches under archways and pillars to show the buildings in a different light. Starting at the United Reform Church on Spencer Street, they moved onto All Saints’ church, the Polish Centre and then finished in the Creative Arches and Court Street car park with coloured glowsticks.

The event was organised by Warwickshire Community And Voluntary Action (WCAVA) and funded by the Portas project.

Jeremy Ireland, project leader of Portas, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people from so many backgrounds coming together to celebrate the Old Town. We have such amazing assets left to us by generations of Leamingtonians, and it was great to see them lit up and made dramatic by sheer volunteer effort. We will be working to make this event generate increased investment in the Old Town, and to seek more permanent enhancements of the night time environment for everyone to enjoy.”
