DESPITE a campaign to try and save it, a village pub has now closed.

The Haywaggon in The Green, Churchover, closed its doors to the public earlier this month.

Villagers launched a campaign earlier this year to try and save the pub after a planning application was submitted to Rugby Borough Council to convert it to a house.

The outcome of this has not yet been decided and the pub has now been put up for sale by its owners Guy and Karen Gargiulo.

Mrs Gargiulo said: “It’s up for sale. That’s all we want to say.”

Villagers are now continuing their campaign to try and save their local.

Villager Karen Down said: “The village is still actively seeking potential buyers through direct contact and now via Facebook. We are also actively collecting pledges from villagers - financial or of practical help - to see how much we could raise towards buying or leasing the pub.”

The Haywaggon is for sale with George & Company chartered surveyors for £395,000.
