Hillmorton Primary pupils help green area grow

Children from the school’s two reception classes were invited to sow wildflower seeds in a field at the bottom of Strath Close by the Hillmorton Vale Residents Association last week.

The association has maintained and developed the land for the past few years and received packets of wildflower seeds from Kew Gardens as part of the national Grow Wild scheme.

It has previously planted seeds for the project but this is the first time they have got children from the school involved.

The group leases the land from Warwickshire County Council and has made every effort to make the most of the green space

Organisers will keep the Facebook page updated with photos so parents can check in on their child’s square of land and the children will also re-visit the site later in the year.

Committee member Jenny Briafield, whose son is in one of the reception classes, decided to get the school involved. She said: “The day helped to introduce the children to the environment and how wildlife can benefit their area.”

Jenny added: “We want people in the community to use the field. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s there for.”

The space is open to the public, who can visit the fruit orchard, tree copse or walk their dogs. Anyone wishing to donate bulbs, volunteer their services or hold an event on the land can get in touch at: www.hillmortonvale.co.uk
