Hospital contests findings of death rates study

Warwick Hospital managers have criticised a report which says more people are dying there than they are in the average English hospital.

The Dr Foster report, published last week, revealed studies that claim South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Warwick Hospital, has a mortality rate of 112 per year, against a national average of 100.

The findings also state that the trust has a poorer-than-average method of recording data, meaning that it is difficult to gauge its performance.

But the trust, which was also praised for its maternity services, has insisted that the Dr Foster studies are incorrect.
