HOMES were left without electricity when thieves stole copper cabling from a field in Rugby.

Around 350 metres of cable worth £3,000 was taken during the incident off Bilton Lane last week.

Jane Brown, who runs Lodge Farm, said: “There seems to be a spate of these thefts in the area at the moment. I heard of another one in Church Lawford.”

She said the power went in the early hours of the morning.

“People sometimes overload at the campsite, but this time it wasn’t us,” said Jane.

“Whoever is responsible for doing this knows exactly what they are doing otherwise they would be electrocuted.”

She said workers from energy firm E.On dealt with the problem quickly.

“They were very good, polite and efficient,” said Jane. “Cable theft is a problem in this country at the moment.”
