Hundreds of women raise thousands of pounds in Myton Hospice’s Moonlight Walk

OH what a night! Strolling bananas, rabbit ears and a few not-so-fearsome tigers were spotted among the costumes donned by hundreds of women who took part in a Moonlight Walk for charity.

Even though the weather was discouraging there was certainly nothing disappointing about the fantastic £50,000 promised in sponsorship pledges for Myton Hospices.

More than 550 walkers gathered in the grounds of Warwick Castle at 10pm last Saturday where they warmed up for the eight mile trek ahead by meeting a few creepy characters from the dungeons before doing a Zumba routine led by Bev Carter.

Myton events manager Charlotte Ingram said: “Thank you very much to everyone who came along despite the weather and to all the wonderful volunteers who gave up their Saturday night to help us.”

Beneath two of the ‘walking banana’ suits were Emma Brodie and Mel Eales from Coventry Building Society whose colleagues promised to double their sponsorship if they wore matching outfits.

Emma, whose mother spent time in the Warwick hospice two years ago, said: “I had a magical night - it was even worth the blisters.

“The Myton team are amazing. I can’t thank them enough for all the support they gave me and my family which really helped us through a very difficult time.”

Others showing true grit were a team from Blue Ribbon Care in Leamington who wanted to remember patients who’d spent time at the hospice.

Training manager Satvir Sembhi said: “We had a great time. We knew in our hearts why were were walking and it made us even more determined to finish.

“Myton is a brilliant cause and we decided to support them as we have cared for many patients who have spent time there.”
