Patients in the Children’s Wards at University Hospital have been treated to a week of play to make their stay as fun as possible.
Play Specialists organised a range of activities and visits for the children to celebrate national Play in Hospital Week, including visits from various critters from Pets at Home, Anna and Elsa from Frozen and even Coventry Blaze players Ned Lukacevic and Renny Marr.
Jenny Waring, Play Specialist, said: “We do everything we can to create a nice environment for young patients when they need to spend time in hospital.
“As play specialists our role is to help the children to come to terms with and understand their illness and treatment through play but also to encourage them to have fun, so to organise this week has been great!
“We have seen lots of smiles and laughter from the children and their parents this week, which has been fantastic.
“We would like to thank everyone who has given up their time to come and visit the children this week – it has made their stay in hospital much less stressful and much more fun.”
The children also got the chance to do many weird and wonderful activities like art attacks, balloon modelling, face painting and giant junk modelling.
Staff from across the hospital have also been on hand to give the children an insight into their roles, with colleagues from departments such as Infection Control stopping by to speak to them.
