THE top ten reasons why Rugby Borough Council workers called in sick last year can be revealed.
The biggest culprit was cold viruses, accounting for 114 absences. This was followed by stomach bugs causing 104 absences, stomach upsets causing 45 absences and flu, 40. Also in the list were back pains, migraines and headaches. Stress was in tenth place, causing 17 absences.
The report, seen by cabinet this week, said the council does not have a significant problem with absences. There were also no specific recommendations, as any shortfalls in the council’s employee well-being policy were already being seen to by council officers.
