Jail drugs reduced

A PRISON near Rugby has been given the seal of approval after its first ever inspection showed a significant drop in drug use among prisoners.

Home Office inspectors released a report yesterday (Wednesday) after doing a two-day unannounced inspection of Rye Hill Prison, Onley, earlier this year.

Rye Hill, which is run privately by Group 4 Carillion, is a Category B prison holding long-term and often serious offenders.

Inspectors found that just 3 per cent of prisoners tested positive - mainly for heroin - in mandatory drugs test in the two months prior to the inspection, compared to 10 per cent the previous year.
