Jobcentre Plus staff in Rugby have gone on strike today (Thursday) in a long-running row pay.

A handful of workers are getting support from passers by as they wave placards outside the building in Albert Street this morning.

Al Batchelor, branch chair DWP PCS Coventry and Warwickshire, said: “Enough is enough.

“We all need a pay rise - both the public and private sectors.

“Unions right across the public sector are now ready to stake a stand together for action.”

Industrial relations representative Martin Leedham, who works at the Rugby office, said it was time to take action.

“This isn’t just for us - it’s for everybody,” he said.

“The cost of living is going up but not in line with pay rises.”

A number of teaching staff in the county are also on strike today.
