John Cooper Clarke is a poet and performer you either know and love, or have never heard of.
His biting, satirical, political and very funny verse, delivered in a unique rapid-fire performance style, resonated with the punk movement. When he first began his poetry performances he was largely ignored by the literature establishment, but his works were so creative, clever and cutting that eventually he became universally acknowledged as one of Britain’s best poets.
JCC toured with all the seminal bands; The Sex Pistols, The Clash & Buzz-cocks, and in the USA with Elvis Costello. He began to draw large crowds in his own right. Joy Division were proud to frequently support JCC and New Order later opened for him.
He comes to Coventry’s Warwick Arts Centre on Thursday November 28 at 8pm. If you’ve never heard of him, find his performances on Youtube or see johncooperclarke.com.
