Kenilworth Carnival needs a new Queen

Cllr Richard Davies (Con, St John’s), the mayor elect, said: “The Carnival Queen performs various public duties during her year in office so it’s a great way for a young person to gain confidence.”

Entrants must either live in Kenilworth or one of the surrounding villages of Ashow, Beausale, Burton Green, Crackley, Honiley, Leek Wootton, Hill Wootton, Meer End or Stoneleigh. Winners from previous years are not eligible to enter.

Applicants must be prepared to participate in the town’s Carnival Day on Saturday July 2 and attend various events in Kenilworth throughout the year. They should also be aged between 15 and 25 inclusive on July 2.

For younger children, there are other titles up for grabs. 12 to 14-year-olds can apply to become Carnival Princess, and girls aged eight to 11 or boys aged six to nine can become Junior Attendants.

Entrants will be interviewed on-stage by the compere and assessed by judges from outside of Kenilworth to prevent favouritism. The compere will ask a variety of questions in a relaxed manner to put entrants at ease.

The winning Carnival Queen will receive £100, Maids of Honour will receive £50, the Carnival Princess will receive £25 and Junior Attendants will each receive £10.
