A Rugby woman took to the boxing ring at the weekend to raise money for her stepsister who is recovering from a rare form of cancer.

Kym-Lee Boyd also wants to raise awareness of endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS), which is a rare malignant tumor of the endometrium.

Her aim is to raise £400 for Jade Bennett, 27, to have a well-earned break away after her ordeal, which has ended in a full hysterectomy and removal of her fallopian tubes.

Kym-Lee said: “As soon as I heard the word cancer I freaked out.

“I needed to do something quick to pick me back up and Jade’s name and circumstances out there. I needed her to know she has people that listen and people who care.”

She got involved with UWCB@Toe2Toe boxing gym in Coventry which is an eight week intense training course.

Kym-Lee’s fight took place in Coventry on Saturday and won against her opponent.

After the fight, she said: “Words can’t explain how I am feeling right now.

“I did this for Jade. She has been on my mind every second since I heard the terrible news.”

Jade couldn’t be there on the night, but said her sister has inspired her to get strong.

Kym-Lee added: “I can’t thank Toe2Toe enough for taking me on, allowing me to try and raise awareness of her diagnoses.”

“She kept being told she had long, heavy periods. If she hadn’t persisted, she might not be alive today.”
