Last chance to take part in Community Remedy consultation

people are being invited to take part in an online consultation run by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office to have their say on proposed options under new legislation to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The Community Remedy plan seeks to put the power of local justice back into the community by making offenders take responsibility for their behaviour whilst empowering victims of crime, by providing alternatives to court proceedings.

Suggested actions include repairing the damage caused to land or property such as cleaning graffiti, a written or verbal apology from the offender, or for the offender to undertake local unpaid work in the community for a short period such as picking up litter or volunteering.

Ron Ball, Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner said: “The Community Remedy plan marks a return to common sense policing by helping avoid costly and lengthy court proceedings, which can often leave the victim feeling dissatisfied with the outcome.

“This is an important opportunity for Warwickshire residents to have their say, and help shape the future landscape of criminal justice in their local area.”

The Community Remedy will launch on Monday October 20.
