Juliet Carter and Dr Rob van Schie, who run the Leamington-based Building Arts Community Interest Company (CIC), led what they believe is the first straw bale-building and lime-rendering course at their home in Leicester Street, which they are currently extending.

Seven people took part in the course, using bales from a farm in Banbury.

Ms Carter said: “It’s a more sustainable, lower impact, eco-friendly and cheaper way of building.

“The idea is to get people to build their own houses. Everybody enjoyed it and got some building experience.

“We hope to do more of this in the future. I think there is an appetite for it.”
