Elizabeth Cosgrove, captain of Rugby St Andrews Ladies, popped the question to her partner, Tom Helliwell, at a fake training event set up by her fellow players.

Tom, who is part of St Andrews mens team, was asked to take part in a coaching event with the ladies teams from St Andrews and Old Laurentians.

Elizabeth, 30, then got down on one knee, held out a ring, and asked Tom the all important question.

Tom said yes and photographer Jamie Gray was there to capture the romantic moment.

Elizabeth said: “I just thought I should go for it and luckily Tom said yes! It was great and we loved having all our friends there with us.

“We met on the pitch at St Andrews last year so that’s why I chose to do it at the ground - the place where it all began.”

The couple met in May last year and live at Coton Park.

Elizabeth works as a postwoman and Tom is a parts manager at Porsche.
