The free school hopes to open next year

Rugby Free Primary School has announced a series of ‘open events’ in anticipation of its planned opening next year.

Families with children starting school next September are invited to Learn Warwickshire, 6 Mitchell Court, Castle Mound Way, Central Park, Rugby on Wednesday October 22 from 4pm to 6pm and on Thursday November 20 from 6pm to 8pm.

Parents interested in applying for a 2015 reception place at the school will have the chance to meet representatives of the trust that will run it and chat with them about all aspects of the school’s development.

Parents are asked to confirm their attendance by visiting www.rugbyfreeprimary.co.uk/events or calling (01788) 524491.

Free schools are independent, state-funded schools which have greater freedom over their curriculum and spending.

A number of potential sites have been identified for the school, with the north of Rugby the preferred location.

It has plans to provide an additional 420 primary school place by 2021, and will be non-selective and free to attend.

Those behind the plan say the school would emphasise literacy and numeracy.
