Daventry air cadets are looking for new members aged 12-and-a-half to 17 who are up for a bit of a challenge.

They are now open for new recruits who fancy trying new experiences, learning new skills and broadening their horizons.

Sqn Commander Flying Officer Chard said the cadets had a busy 2015 and this year looks to be just as productive.

He said: “The cadets worked and played hard all year visiting RAF stations, taking part in the Royal International Air Tattoo and even completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.”

Air cadets also took part in adventure training camps, learned how to fly both in real aircraft and also top of the range simulators.

They supported a raft of local events including the Rotary Club’s annual Santa Sleigh tour.

Cadets also sold poppies around the town for the Royal British Legion and worked with local partners such as the Co-op to fundraise to replace much needed adventure training equipment.

The air cadets unit is now recruiting new cadets.

The unit is looking for youngsters in Year 8 or higher living in the Daventry area and looking for new challenges.

Daventry cadets regularly try their hand at flying, gliding, shooting and field craft camps.

This summer they will be attending annual camps and trying snowboarding.

Cadets will also be out hill walking, rock climbing and visiting the Vulcan restoration project to lend a helping hand.

The Daventry Squadron is based in the cadet centre, Waterloo, Daventry, and meets on Mondays and Thursdays between 7.30-9.30pm.

For further information, visit the centre on open nights or contact Liz Chard by email at oc.497@aircadets.org

The air cadet organisation is dedicated to broadening young people’s horizons, building confidence and teaching them skills such as team work and leadership.
