Litter louts are costing district’s taxpayers extra

PARKS and gardens across Warwick district have been invaded by a swarm of litterbugs, the district council says.

The unusually warm and sunny weather have brought higher-than-usual numbers of people to the green spaces of the area - and so much rubbish has been left over from picnics and lunches that the council has had to draft in extra teams to deal with the problem.

Cllr Dave Shilton, responsible for policy on neighbourhood services, said: “As can be seen from the photos, there is no doubt that the weather of late has caused more work for our teams.

“This isn’t the council trying to put a damper on the good weather but to highlight the problem - and hopefully make people more conscious about clearing up after themselves. I’m sure they would prefer their council tax was better spent.”
