Flower power fever gripped crowds at the Ufton fete on Saturday - which was very nearly cancelled due toa bad weather forecast.

Ian Crowther, treasurer of St Michael’s and All Angel’s church, which organised the event, said: “On Friday there was talk of cancelling it. But despite the horrible weather in the morning, by 1pm it was blue skies for the rest of the day.”

And with the afternoon sunshine, hundreds of people turned out and the church raised around £1,900, 90 per cent of which goes towards the church and ten per cent goes towards village causes. Singer Michael Alexander opened the fete, which also featured morris dancers and ukelele music and a ‘flower power’ children’s fancy dress competition, the winners of which were Daniel and Laura Jones.
