London 2012 fuels boost for town’s businesses

NEXT year’s Olympics have landed Leamington and Warwick with 12 business contracts related to the Games, contributing to a total value of more than £515 million for the West Midlands region.

The Kenilworth and Southam parliamentary constituency has also gained seven, with more than 80 in the Coventry and Warwickshire sub region.

Advantage West Midlands-funded workshops, detailing how to apply for London 2012 tenders, were held in the build-up to 2012 across the region by the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 Games and the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

Louise Bennett, the chamber’s chief executive, said: “Opportunities such as this do not arise very often, so we were determined to support businesses in the region however we could when it came to applying for London 2012-related contracts.

“These figures are pleasing and are a positive reflection of the quality of businesses in the area as well as the value of the support we were able to offer.”

Businesses applied for tenders through the CompeteFor portal.

While every constituency in the country has been awarded at least one contract, more are likely to be awarded during the coming year.
