Long delays on M6 and M1 after crash

Delays of up to 50 minutes are being reported on the M1 and M6 after a crash involving three vehicles.

The M6 southbound entry slip road at junction 1, and a stretch of the M6 from the M1 to junction 1, are currently closed and are due to reopen at 10pm.

On the M1 northbound between junctions 17 and 18, there are currently delays of 50 mins caused by congestion, with one lane closed between junctions 18 and 19.

Four men in a Vauxhall car, believed to be in their 30s, had serious injuries after the incident southbound between junction 1, near Newton, and the M1.

The ambulance service was called at about 3.40pm.

Two air ambulances and five road ambulances, four from the East Midlands and one from the West Midlands, were sent to the scene.

Two of the four men with serious injuries were airlifted to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, and the other two were carried by road. A van driver received minor injuries.
