A while ago someone asked me if we had any pictures of Little Church Street and the Merchants Inn. At the time I couldn’t find anything, but I’ve just come across these. The scene above was taken in the early 1990s and has changed a little since then. Selections China and Glass shop on the car park has gone and the Get Stuffed cafe is now further along. A block of apartments has also been built on the right hand side.

The next is this wonderful old one, looking down little Church Street towards the parish church. The sign on the white building in the centre - which is now the Merchants - says Northampton Brewery Co and the one below ‘Henson’.

It’s interesting that the building has always centred around alcohol, later becoming Whittakers, as you can see from the sign on the other picture which directs people to Whittakers Traditional Wine shop 20 yards on the left.
