Lorry crashes down M6 embankment near Rugby during serious collision

A lorry and a van were involved in a serious collision on the M6 near Rugby this morning (Monday).

Emergency services were called to the collision on the M6 northbound between junction one for Rugby and junction two for Coventry at around 7.30am this morning.

The collision involved a white articulated lorry and a grey Vauxhall Vivaro Van.

The lorry left the carriageway, going down an embankment and through a hedge. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. His injuries include two broken shoulders and two broken vertebrae in his back and a head injury.

Two lanes are currently closed between junctions 1 and 2 of the M6 to allow emergency services to attend the scene and for vehicle recovery.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “Traffic is currently running slowly. It is anticipated the motorway will be running normally with all lanes open by early afternoon.”
