A lorry fire caused hours of delays for commuters heading towards Rugby on the M6 this morning (Thursday).
A 5.23am Warwickshire Fire and Rescue received a number of emergency calls reporting a lorry on fire on the M6 between junctions three and two on the southbound carriageway.
Fire crews from around the county were called to assist with the blaze.
Firefighters said that a HGV on the hard shoulder was ‘well alight’ and two lanes of the motorway were closed.
By 6am half of the fire had been extinguished.
Fire crews also confirmed that the lorry was transporting a non hazardous load.
All the lanes of the motorway have now reopened and traffic is returning to normal.
