Magical proms

Hundreds of people flocked to the grounds for a packed programme of entertainment at Paddox Proms last Saturday.

Pupils spent the afternoon performing to one another and singing in unison.

Many groups taking part in the celebrations were made up of current and ex pupils, local community members and parents.

As well as musical delights, visitors were able to tour the new build which was officially opened by Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey, as well as the school’s newest addition of an outdoor learning wooden hut,

Rugby Mayor Sally Bragg was also on hand to congratulate the school on its event.

Compere Sue Rule said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable event which sent tingles down my back, hairs to stand up on my arms and often brought a tear to my eye.”

Visitors took the time to travel back in time to the 60s and walk through the display of Fareham High School and Paddox Primary School through the decades.

“I commend all the performers for a fantastic feast of entertainment,” added Sue.

Headteacher Jane Lepoidevin, said: “This event was the culmination of the Year of Music which has seen the school develop a choir for older pupils as well as an orchestra.

“The whole afternoon and evening was magical and the standard of all performances was amazing.

“Several parents commented how lovely it was to have other groups from the community perform with pupils.

“We had no idea whether the parents would embrace the whole concept of a picnic on the field, but even with the risky weather, they did and it was a very well-supported event.”
